Wolvey Village Hall - History
Wolvey Village Hall was built as a memorial to local men who lost their lives in the First World War. It was opened in April 1920 and underwent a major refurbishment in 1963. In the late 1980’s the room at the rear was added. It is a multi-purpose hall which is used by many organisations within the village and is also popular, due to its size and the facilities it has to offer, with outside organisations.
Table tennis, ballroom and sequence dance classes, archery, tai chi, weekly whist drives are all available in the main hall and it is the home of the Baby & Toddler Group, Bridge Club, Brownies, the monthly meeting of the WI and the twice monthly meetings of the Over 60’s Club. In addition, it is very popular for dances, parties and wedding receptions. In July 2008 Warwickshire Police established an office at the hall and this provides a much needed and appreciated service for the village.
The management committee oversee a rolling programme of maintenance and improvements and over the last 3 years in excess of £8,000 has been spent, the main items being new tables and chairs, renewal of double glazing and roof repairs, five-year electrical upgrade and boiler repairs. The main hall has been repainted together with the gents’ toilet, lobby and external areas and plastering to the stage.
The most recent additions are a keyboard with wall mounted cupboard, dehumidifier for the kitchen and a baby changing station has been installed in the disabled toilet.
The Village Hall Committee consists of a small band of volunteers who meet in the room at the rear of the Hall on the third Thursday of the month at 7.45 p.m. They see it as their duty and privilege to ensure the building is maintained to a high standard for use by future generations and welcome anyone who is interested in helping with this task.
