In January we
read or mostly
attempted to
read 'Lives
through Letters
- A portrait of
the Waller
Family 1796
-1856' edited by
Hayley
Cotterill. The
book is the
result of the
Outside the Box
project at
Warwickshire
County Records
Office.
The
Wallers lived in
Leek Wootton and
the book offered
glimpse into the
personal life of
a privileged,
close knit
family during
the early
nineteenth
century. The few
who got to the
end found the
second half far
more readable
than the first
as the early
English language
was rather
tedious.
Towards the end of the book however, the descriptions of the battlefields of the Crimea and the detail of an officer's daily existence were fascinating and informative.
Overall we thought it was not an enjoyable read.
February's book is the highly acclaimed 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' by Stieg Larsson.
