Sixty Years of A Village at Play
Sixty Years of a Village at Play is the title of Wolvey Parish Council’s exciting intergenerational community arts project and is part of the village’s 2012 celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This innovative project, made possible through the Parish Council securing Central Warwickshire Villages LEADER European funding, explores play and leisure interests of the local community and looks at how play has changed over the past sixty years. Four professional artists - Anna Ryder, Louise Bardgett, Matt Shaw, and Barbara Jones from TheVERYidea artist collective, are working closely with community groups as part of the project.

Working across the generations, the project involves Wolvey groups - Baby & Toddler, Pre-school, Over 60’s and Environmental Group in sessions with the artists. It also involves Brownies, Beavers/Cubs/ Scouts/Explorers, a Class group from Wolvey School, a group of young people and the Local History Group. The project invites community members to show and tell us about their play and leisure interests and experiences using creative approaches, promote outdoor play, try new creative play ideas with artists, capture the responses and share these across the different groups and generations in Wolvey.

Everyone can join in. Have you got a photo of yourself or your family having fun at play, sport or leisure in the village? It could be anytime - recently or going back over the last 60 years. Why not dig out the family albums and share a snapshot of village life for the Diamond Jubilee. It may be that you have a memory of play to share. Please share your photos or memories by either posting them in the Sixty Years of a Village at Play box inside Wolvey Stores with a ‘sixty play share’ slip/envelope or send them by email to barbara@theveryidea.co.uk

Watch out for the wider community challenge - ‘portraits at play’, which will be coming very soon. The project work will all come together at an exciting interactive exhibition in the village hall on 2 June 2012 and at a big play event at the Playing Fields, as part of the village’s Jubilee celebrations, on 4 June.
